Who am I?

I am a photographer and video maker with many passions in life but creating imagery has been a constant obsession.

What do I shoot?

I specialise in photographing people, creating artworks to be printed and displayed.

I shoot for corporate business or beauty, fashion and lifestyle portfolios, and portrait arts for personal milestones and enjoyment.

Where am I located/based?

My studio is based in Sydney, Australia and I regularly operate in Sydney surrounding areas. I have a mobile studio setup that allows me to build a studio super quick anywhere on-location, but I shoot as much outdoors with natural light as I shoot indoor with controlled light.

Why am I passionate about photographing people?

The greatest feedback I received from a client 2019 was:

“Thank you OuWen, you made me feel beautiful yesterday...”

Being a highly social and extroverted person I’ve always found comfort and enjoyment around people. People interest me. While ultimately what drives me is my own thirst for creative thinking; my satisfaction to create for other people so we could share that joy, is why I pick people photography over other forms.

My aim and values align to providing a memorable experience, not only to serve as a print on your wall or in a magazine but the actual shoot experience itself.

My Journey

The very beginning

As far ago as I can remember my father has been a photography enthusiast, and while I have a late obsession in the art of photography, the craft has been slowly brushed onto my canvas since birth. I grew up from the days of Film, SLR to DSLR and now I shoot primarily with Mirrorless.

My career background straight out of university was as an Engineer, Technologist and Digital specialist, then Marketing and Customer Experience. My corporate adventures play compliment to my craving for a creative outlet as an artist. As someone who studied and appreciated artistry via visual art, poetry, and language - photography has been patiently waiting to take over my life.

2017 - The professional beginning

Like most photographers, my early subjects were of wonderful places my travel bug took me to and friends and family. My true focus on photography started in 2017 and late in the year embracing the path I’ve taken, I registered Captured by Ou Wen officially as a business

2018 - Corporate journey

Life with it’s challenges and changes ran mockery of my other devotions and guided all consumption of my mind in mastering photography. In 2018 I had the opportunity to focus on corporate head-shots and event coverage for websites, email headers, social content, and publishing.

2019 - Fashion editorials and boudoir

I started 2019 with the target to entering the market of modelling profiles, fashion, art and intimate boudoir. With a single publishing up to this point, I set myself an aggressive goal of being published 10 times within the year. By the end of the year I was proudly published 13 times for fashion and sensual portraiture and editorials.

2020 - Beauty

From late 2019, I have added heavily, beauty editorials and portraits to my skill set. I aim to create my own recognizable style of creative beauty photography with a blend of art.

2021 - Enter videography

Driven by involvement in a big production advertisement campaign for a financial company and in-and-out of lock-down over the periods of pandemic I started to learn videography and cinematography. I was fortunate to take on an advertisement video contract as the director and cinematographer in 2021, and that laid my foundations to offer video as a service.

2022 - Reels and short-form videos

With short-form videos taking such a dominance in the social space, I started offering short-form videos almost as much as photography. This is a space that continues to change rapidly and I continue to work with clients to find the fine line of utilising trends, but not be led by them.
